History

Navy Hale Keiki (House of Children) School was organized and established in 1946 as a nonprofit organization. Over the years, it has served the military community as a nursery school, preschool, and since 1967, an early childhood program for students in preschool and continuing through grade four.

The original NHKS campus was located near the current Makalapa Gate at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Students attended classes in Quonset huts until the early 1970s, when the school relocated to its current grounds on Bougainville Drive.

Navy Hale Keiki School has always maintained a rich history of patriotism, averaging an enrollment of 95% military dependents.
